THE LADY WITHOUT CAMELIAS (1953):

A young shop assistant named Clara Manni is selected by movie executive Gianni for his new film, Woman without Destiny. When test screenings reveal that the public is enamoured with Clara, but less enthusiastic about the film itself, the producer sees an opportunity to take advantage of the actress' shapely presence and spice the film up a bit, with less attention to detail and more overt displays of passion. Clara becomes compromised when she marries Gianni, who becomes jealous over the provocative marketing for her film, and categorically states that he doesn't want her involved with it anymore. 

Clara Manni, una ex commessa milanese, è diventata attrice dopo l'insistente proposta del produttore Gianni Franchi ma è costretta a recitare in pellicole che sfruttano più la sua bellezza che la sua bravura interpretativa. Gianni la sposa in fretta e, divenuto geloso, le proibisce di esibirsi in questo genere di film. Ma cambiare repertorio non è semplice e il nuovo film di Clara, che interpreta Giovanna d'Arco, fallisce, mettendo finanziariamente nei guai il marito. Nel frattempo, a Venezia Clara conosce Nardo Rusconi, un console in cerca di un'avventura amorosa, ma senza intenzioni serie.
