A factory manager is murdered and the glove of "Lilas" Couchoux, a local prostitute, is found near the corpse. The police have a suspect, but Inspector André Lucot believes him to be innocent. The inspector will go undercover in the factory, pretending to be a steelworker, in order to conduct an investigation. Lilas falls in love with the inspector. 

Un directeur d'usine est assassiné sur les fortifications (boulevard Sérurier, bizarrement situé dans le film à La Chapelle...). Le gant de « Lilas » Couchoux, une prostituée du coin, est trouvé près du cadavre. La police a un suspect, mais l'inspecteur André Lucot le croit innocent et va s'infiltrer dans le milieu, en se disant placier en acier, afin de mener l'enquête. Lilas tombe amoureuse de l'inspecteur qui finit par la croire innocente.
