PARKSTRASSE 13 (1939)

The beautiful Evelyne Schratt, who has many admirerers, and whose two husbands both died under mysterious circumstances, is giving a reception. When one of her admirers is found stabbed to death in a room upstairs, the police detains everyone in the house and begins an interrogation (oh goody: does dinner come with this mystery theatre, too?). Evelyne admits, that the murdered man tried to blackmail about some information he had about the death of the two husbands.

Die schöne Evelyne Schratt, die viele Bewunderer hat und deren beide Ehemänner unter mysteriösen Umständen ums Leben gekommen sind, gibt einen Empfang. REGINE (1935)

Frank returns to his homeland as an engineer, falls in love with Regine, the housemaid of his uncle, and marries her. Thanks to the intrigues of Floris, one of Frank's rejects, Regine is suspected of having an affair with another man. Depressed and desperate, she intends to commit suicide, but is saved by Frank in the last minute.

Frank kehrt als Ingenieur in seine Heimat zurück, verliebt sich in Regine, das Hausmädchen seines Onkels, und heiratet sie. Durch Intrigen der von Frank zurückgewiesenen Floris bei einem Hausball wird Regine verdächtigt, ein Verhältnis mit einem anderen Mann zu haben. TRENCK (1932)

Love story against the backdrop of the Silesian Wars: The Prussian officer Friedrich Freiherr von der Trenck is in love with Princess Amalie, the sister of King Friedrich II. He is sentenced to imprisonment at the fortress in Glatz; flees; is captured; and once against thrown into the dungeon in Magdeburg. After seventeen years in prison, he is pardoned by the King (gee, thanks for nothing!), but then banished from Prussia. Only after thirty years of this exile is he able to return to a Prussia ruled by Friedrich Wilhelm II and once more meets all the cause of his troubles: Amalie.

Liebesdrama vor dem Hintergrund der Schlesischen Kriege: Der preußische Offizier Friedrich Freiherr von der Trenck verliebt sich in Prinzessin Amalie, die Schwester des Königs Friedrich II. Er wird zu Festungshaft in Glatz verurteilt, flieht, wird gestellt und in Magdeburg wieder ins Verlies geworfen. Nach siebzehn Jahren Haft wird er vom König begnadigt, aber aus Preußen verbannt. Erst nach dreißigjähriger Verbannung darf er unter Friedrich Wilhelm II nach Preußen zurückkehren und trifft Amalie wieder.

WAS BIN ICH OHNE DICH? (1934)

The musician Erwin Schwarz and his neighbor Franz Hurtig are deep in debt. Without Paula Schwarz – nicknamed “Polly” – the wife of the musician and the caring writer of the lyricist, Franz would probably have given up the struggle. But, encouraged by her, he submits a manuscript to the Fortuna-Film Company. “Fata Morgana” meet with Director Ullrich’s approval, but his leading actress, Lilly Petrova, doesn’t seem suitable for the main role. Luckily, she has no interest in the role anyhow, because she wants to travel with her fiancée to his homeland. At a film production’s ball, Schwarz has the orchestra play his latest hit. Polly, who works in the dressing rooms, enters the ballroom, attracted by the familiar music and there meets director Ullrich, who succumbs to her charms. Finally, all the stars in the sky come together than it is decided, that Polly will be the lead in “Fata Morgana”, the music will be by Erwin Schwarz and everyone is thrilled to death.

Der Musiker Erwin Schwarz und sein Nachbar Franz Hurtig stehen beide tief in der Kreide. Ohne Paula Schwarz, genannt Polly, Gattin des Komponisten und fürsorgliche Nachbarin des Schriftstellers, gäbe Hurtig den Kampf vermutlich auf, doch durch sie ermuntert reicht er ein Manuskript bei der Fortuna-Filmgesellschaft ein. "Fata Morgana" findet die Zustimmung des Direktors Ullrich, dem jedoch seine Hauptdarstellerin Lilly Petrowa für die tragende Rolle ungeeignet erscheint. Glücklicherweise hat diese gar kein Interesse an der Rolle, da sie mit ihrem Verlobten in dessen Heimat reisen möchte. Auf einem Filmball springt Schwarz als Schlagzeuger ein und bringt das Ballorchester dazu, seine neuesten Schlager zu spielen. Polly, die in der Garderobe arbeitet, betritt von diesen bekannten Klängen angelockt den Ballsaal, wo sie auf Direktor Ullrich trifft, der ihrem Charme erliegt. Schließlich kommt es durch die Verkettung dieser Umstände dazu, dass Hurtigs Film "Fata Morgana" mit der Musik von Erwin Schwarz und Polly in der Hauptrolle verfilmt werden soll, womit alle glücklich und zufrieden sind.

The famous actress Paula Corvey loves the young racer Werner Bruck. One day, Paula's 18-year old daughter returns unexpectedly to her mother. Shewas living with her father, Paula's ex-husband, but she's run off to Paula, because daddy wouldn't let her become a hot-to-trot actress like mama. Paula just doesn't know what to do. That she's the mother of a grown up girl is something she desperately wants to hide from Werner (no, honey, I swear: you don't look a day over 17 ... uh huh). So, to cover her little horny tracks, she tells Werner that Eva is her cousin. The plan backfires (ha ha!), when Werner falls for the "cousin". When Werner finally discovers the truth, a conflict develops (duhh!), which can only be solved by Paula finding a man her own age (thank you).

Die berühmte Schauspielerin Paula Corvey liebt den jüngeren Rennfahrer Werner Bruck. Eines Tages kommt Paulas 18jährige Tochter Eva überraschend zu ihrer Mutter zurück. Sie lebte bei ihrem von Paula geschiedenen Vater und ist durchgebrannt, weil er nicht erlaubt hat, dass sie Schauspielerin wird. Paula ist hin- und hergerissen. Dass sie Mutter einer erwachsenen Tochter ist, möchte sie vor Werner verheimlichen und gibt Eva als ihre Cousine aus. Sehr bald muß sie jedoch erkennen, dass zwischen Werner und Eva eine tiefe Beziehung entsteht. Als Werner die Wahrheit erfährt, kommt es zum Konflikt, der nur durch Paulas endgültigen Verzicht auf den Geliebten gelöst werden kann.

ZWEI KRAWATTEN (1930)

This adaptation of the play by George Kaiser was set to music by Misha Spoliansky and produced in the very first year sound films hit the public arena. Jean, a waiter, is forced by his girlfriend Trude to marry her and to look for a better job. In the Grand Hotel, where Jean works, a stranger asks for help: in order to disappear unnoticed, he wants to pass himself off as a waiter and trade ties with Jean. Jean decides to play along and afterwards receives a large sum of money from a stranger as well as a lottery ticket, with which he wins a trip to America. He leaves the money to Trude, but heads off to America with an American named Mabel.

Im ersten Jahr des Tonfilms entstand diese Adaption des Bühnenstücks von Georg Kaiser mit der Musik von Mischa Spoliansky. Der Kellner Jean wird von seiner Freundin Trude gedrängt, sie zu heiraten und sich um eine bessere berufliche Position zu bemühen. Im Grand Hotel, wo Jean arbeitet, bittet ihn ein Fremder um Hilfe: Um unerkannt verschwinden zu können, will er sich als Kellner ausgeben und mit Jean die Krawatte tauschen. Jean geht darauf ein und erhält von dem Unbekannten eine größere Summe Geldes sowie ein Glückslos, mit dem er prompt eine Reise nach Amerika gewinnt. Er überlässt Trude das Geld, tritt aber selbst mit der Amerikanerin Mabel die Reise an.

DIE UNHEIMLICHEN WUNSCHE (1939)

The impoverished aristocrat Rafael von Valentin has lost nearly all his possessions – apart from a small piece of leather. An art dealer tells him, that is a very special piece of leather: it will grant its owner all his/her wishes. However, the piece of leather shrinks with every wish made and, at the same time, shortens the life of the wisher. Rafael, however, uses it without hesitation to win back his possessions and to expand them. He also wins the life of an attractive actress this way and lives a luxurious life with her. But because he now has limitless possibilities to expand his happiness, he now loses the joy of life.

Der verarmte Adelige Rafael von Valentin hat fast seinen gesamten Besitz verloren – bis auf ein kleines Stück Leder. Ein Kunsthändler klärt ihn auf, dass es sich um einen ganz besonderen Gegenstand handelt: Er erfüllt seinem Eigner jeden Wunsch. Allerdings schrumpft das Leder von Wunsch zu Wunsch mehr zusammen und verkürzt zugleich das Leben des Wünschenden. Rafael jedoch nutzt es bedenkenlos, um sein Vermögen zurückzugewinnen und zu vergrößern. Auch die Liebe einer attraktiven Schauspielerin erlangt er auf diese Weise und führt mit ihr ein luxuriöses Leben. Doch gerade angesichts seiner scheinbar unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten kommt ihm die Lebensfreude abhanden.

Eine reiche, polnische Fürstin, die nach Wien gekommen ist, um die uneheliche Tochter ihres verstorbenen Mannes zu adoptieren, gerät in zahlreiche, turbulente Situationen, als man ihr eine stellungslose Tänzerin als das gesuchte Mädchen unterschiebt.

Now, only he is alone when he suddenly meets Renate.

Die Pianistin Angelika Rink ist erschöpft von der Jagd nach Erfolg und sucht Ruhe in ihrem Heimatdorf.
