In Burgundy in 1728, an eighth daughter is born to a nobleman, which is no good news, as the grandfather, an old ogre of a count, intends to leave all his wealth to monks, if he doesn't get a male heir. So what do the parents do? Of course, they raise their daughter as a boy, who eventually makes a name for himself (herself?) as a royal dragoon. So much so, that King Louis XV wants to send him to Petersburg with a document stolen from the Prussian court. The document is a letter Friedrich the Great composed for his treasured companion Voltaire, and it describes how much of a whore the Tsarina of Russia is. Louis thinks this might sway the Tsarina to choose France over Prussia for an alliance. But will a woman dressed as a man, who then imitates a woman, in order to speak to the Tsarina, succeed in seducing Her Royal Highness and bring about a diplomatic coup for France? Ask the Prussian bunglers chasing after him/her all the way through Eastern Europe and northern Russia!
