Architect Phillip has spent five years in prison—convicted of a crime committed not by him, but by the building contractor Lasky. Upon his release, Phillip attempts to find his way back to his old life. However, during the years of his absence, his wife has become estranged from him. Phillip’s son, too, treats his father with reserve. Against this backdrop, Phillip once again falls victim to the unscrupulous contractor.

Der Architekt Phillip hat fünf Jahre lang im Gefängnis gesessen – verurteilt für ein Verbrechen, dass nicht er, sondern der Bauunternehmer Lasky begangen hat. Nach seiner Entlassung versucht Phillip, wieder in sein altes Leben zurück zu finden. Doch in den Jahren seiner Abwesenheit hat sich seine Frau, die inzwischen umgezogen ist, von ihm entfremdet. Auch Phillips Sohn begegnet seinem Vater mit abweisender Zurückhaltung. Aus dieser Situation heraus wird Phillip abermals ein Opfer des skrupellosen Bauunternehmers.
