Julien Boissel, a young and successful industrialist, is engaged to Yvonne Vincent, the daughter of a former government minister. The latter—held captive by the blackmail of press magnate Gauthier, who wishes to marry the young woman himself—orders the couple to break off their engagement. After spending an evening at the Moulin Rouge to drown his sorrows, Boissel seeks out a doctor who succeeds in separating his soul from his body. Rendered invisible, the phantom embarks on a series of pranks—even in the midst of a cabinet meeting—before ultimately stealing the compromising dossier from Gauthier’s office. He must then race back to his lifeless body as quickly as possible—before it is dissected at the forensic institute—so that he may finally reunite with his fiancée.

Julien Boissel, jeune industriel à succès, est fiancé à Yvonne Vincent, la fille d’un ancien ministre. Ce dernier, en proie au chantage du patron de presse Gauthier qui veut épouser la jeune fille, ordonne aux jeunes gens de rompre. Après une soirée au Moulin Rouge pour oublier, Boissel rejoint un docteur qui parvient à dissocier son âme de son corps. Rendu invisible, le fantôme commet de multiples facéties, y compris en plein conseil des ministres, puis finit par subtiliser le dossier compromettant dans le bureau de Gauthier. Il lui faudra ensuite rejoindre au plus vite son corps sans vie avant que celui-ci ne soit disséqué à l’institut médico-légal, avant de retrouver sa promise.
