A respectable woman in her 50s inherits a local night club from her husband in a divorce settlement, provided that she shows up there every night at 10:00pm for a month. In spite of eny and provocation, she manages to meet the terms.

WAS GESCHAH IN DIESER NACHT (1941)

Dr. John Petersen, a shy young man, is invited by his friend Marion to meet her cousin Julia.  But his car breaks down, leaving the two women waiting for him in vain.  While investigating the matter, Julia learns from a servant, that Dr. Petersen is having dinner with Miss Gerti.  However, in reality, it’s a different Dr. Petersen, who’s munching down dinner … namely, John’s cousin.  When the misunderstanding is cleared up, Julia finds him to be very charming and spends the night in his guest room.  Then the original Petersen of the story shows up, drunk like a skunk, and lays down in bed next to Julia, unaware that she’s there.

Dr. Johannes Petersen, ein schüchterner junger Mann, wird von seiner Freundin Marion eingeladen, die ihn mit ihrer Kusine Julia bekannt machen möchte. Am gemütlichen Beisammensein mit den beiden hindert ihn jedoch eine Autopanne, so dass die Damen vergebens auf ihn warten. Bei ihrer Nachforschung erfährt Julia vom Diener, dass Herr Petersen gerade mit einem Fräulein Gerti diniere. Bei diesem Petersen handelt es sich allerdings um den Vetter gleichen Namens. Als das Missverständnis aufgeklärt ist, findet Julia ihn sehr charmant und übernachtet im Gästezimmer. Da erscheint völlig betrunken jener Petersen mit der Autopanne und legt sich, nichts ahnend, zu Julia ins Bett.

EIN FALSCHER FUNFZIGER (1935)

Christa Bach, a saleswoman in a radio store, accepts a 50 Mark note from a reputable-looking client, only to realize too late, that the note is a counterfeit.  Because she doesn't want to attract any attention to the error, she puts the counterfeit note in her pocket.  She had bought her nephew a piggy bank as a present, since she's to become his godmother; but since she had no other money after buying the gift, she sticks the counterfeit note inside the bank as a symbolic gift ... for the time being.

Ahnungslos nimmt Christa Bach, Verkäuferin in einem Radiogeschäft, einen Fünfzig-Mark-Schein von einer seriös aussehenden Kundin an. Zu spät bemerkt sie, dass es sich dabei um Falschgeld handelt. Weil sie kein Aufsehen erregen will, ersetzt sie das Geld aus eigener Tasche und behält den falschen Fünfziger für sich. Da sie nun aber kein Geld mehr hat, um ihrem kleinen Neffen, dessen Patin sie werden soll, ein Geschenk zu machen, kauft sie ihm eine Sparbüchse und steckt den falschen Geldschein hinein – als vorerst symbolisches Geschenk.

ES FING SO HARMLOS AN (1944)

Clemens and Bobi, two legation secretaries, are sent on a delicate mission by their minister:  it concerns a red portfolio with secret papers, which the minister stuck under a bed mattress and forgot about when he met someone on a rendezvous.  And to make things more difficult, the horny minister can't remember which room he left it in.  After several incidents in different hotel rooms, neither secretary has found a thing.  There's not a trace of the portfolio; but Clemens is more interested in Annette, the young lady in one of the hotel beds, than in the portfolio.  He forgets his mission and can think only of her.  Boni, in the meantime, has found his way into a room, where Olivia is staying and sees a red, leather folder there.  But the woman throws him out in short order.

Clemens und Boni, zwei Legationssekretäre, werden von ihrem Minister auf eine heikle Mission geschickt. Es geht um eine rote Mappe mit Geheimpapieren, die der Minister bei einem Rendezvous unter der Matratze des Bettes versteckt und vergessen hat. An das Zimmer kann er sich leider nicht mehr erinnern. Nach einigen Zwischenfällen in verschiedenen Hotelzimmern bleiben die beiden Sekretäre ohne Erfolg, von der Mappe gibt es keine Spur, aber mehr als für die Geheimpapiere interessiert sich Clemens inzwischen für Annette, die junge Dame in einem der Hotelbetten. Er vergisst seinen Auftrag und denkt nur noch an sie.  Auch Boni ist in das Zimmer einer Dame mit Namen Olivia eingedrungen und sieht dort die rote Ledermappe liegen. Doch Madame schmeißt ihn kurzerhand hinaus.

FRAU LUNA (1941)

Berlin's theatre crowd is excited about the new operetta "Frau Luna".  But for the head of the city's vice police, who was invited to the dress rehearsal, the costumes for the ladies onstage are a bit too revealing.  He demands the show be cancelled as offensive.  The president of the Thusneldenbund has taken it upon himself to alert everyone about the growth of immorality in the capital.  The theatre director Knopp has come up with an idea to convince these "fine" gentlemen to let the operetta go onstage again:  He intends to win over the friendship of the moral police and then nothing will stand in the way of "Frau Luna" once more being performed.

Berlins Theaterpublikum freut sich auf eine neue Operette: "Frau Luna". Dem städtischen Polizeigeheimrat, der zur Generalprobe geladen ist, sind die Kostüme der Damen auf der Bühne jedoch zu offenherzig. Er macht dem "anstößigen" Treiben ein Ende, indem er die Vorführung abbrechen lässt. Der Präsident des Thusneldenbundes hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, über die Sittlichkeit in der Hauptstadt zu wachen. Theaterdirektor Knoppe hat indes eine Idee, wie er die feinen Herrschaften dazu bewegen kann, das lang ersehnte Stück wieder freizugeben: Er will die Freundschaft der Sittenwächter gewinnen, und schon steht der Premiere von "Frau Luna" nichts mehr im Wege.

JOHANN (1943)

This is the film version of the same-named theatre piece by Theo Lingen.  The story concerns a chamberservant with a strong sense of duty as well as his employer of noble birth, who's not so noble when it comes to the treatment of his wife.  The chamberservant tries, more or less voluntarily, to switch professions again and again ... always without success.  In the end, he ends up back at his calling as a chamberservant and is able to find some happiness in his profession as well as in his private life.  Theo Lingen plays a double role in this film as both the servant and his employer.

LIEBESHEIRAT (1944)

George and Isabel are newly married and newly in love.  And while on their honeymoon, the young couple is already put to the test.  George’s friend Leo unexpectedly shows up with his new bride Pucki.  This nice visit, however, hides a bad surprise.  Apparently, George once had a short affair with Pucki; and since he hasn’t learned yet what marriage is all about and thinks he’s supposed to be honest with his wife, he stupidly tells her all about it.  Can you say “divorce court”?

Georg und Isabell sind frisch verheiratet, frisch verliebt. Während der Flitterwochen bereits werden die Jungvermählten auf eine erste Probe gestellt. Georgs Freund Leo taucht unerwartet mit seiner Braut Pucki bei den Turteltauben auf. Der nette Besuch birgt jedoch eine böse Überraschung. Früher einmal hatte Georg nämlich eine kurze Affäre mit Pucki. Und da er seiner Frau gegenüber immer ehrlich sein will, erzählt er ihr von der Sache.

DIE AUSTERNLILLI (1937)

The Parisian restaurant "At the Oyster King's" is looking for a new waitress, whose job would be to crack open oysters with a newfangled oyster cracker (how exciting!).  But who would have thought that this newfound invention would lead to so much turmoil (they're French, aren't they?)?!  Through a mix-up, Lilli Dupont gets the job.  But Lilli is no waitress, but rather a talented singer, waiting in vain for an engagement.  She takes the job and soon every male visitor is laying at her feet.  So that Lilli doesn't constantly have to fight off all the horny men, the cashier Aristide spreads the rumor that Lilli is actually the daughter of the millioniare van Muhlen, to whom the "Oyster King" belongs  (daughter of a millionaire?!?  Oh yes, of course:  that will dissuade potential suitors!).

Das Pariser Lokal "Zum Austernkönig" sucht eine neue Kellnerin, deren Aufgabe es wäre, mit einem neuartigen Öffner die Austern zu knacken. Aber wer hätte gedacht, was für Turbulenzen diese Neueinstellung mit sich bringen würde? Durch eine Verwechslung erhält nämlich Lilli Dupont den Job. Lilli ist jedoch gar keine Kellnerin, sondern eine talentierte Sängerin, die vergeblich auf ein Engagement wartet. Sie nimmt die Stelle an, und schon bald liegen ihr sämtliche männlichen Besucher des Lokals zu Füßen. Damit Lilli sich nicht ständig den Nachstellungen der Herren erwehren muss, bringt der Kassierer Aristide das Gerücht in Umlauf, Lilli sei die Tochter des Millionärs van Mühlen, dem der "Austernkönig" gehört.

MARGUERITE: 3 (1939)

Dr. Wolf Findeisen has finally completed his assessor-year and is now returning to his hometown Berlin.  In the train, he gets to know a very confident young woman, from whom he must make a hasty farewell at the train station.  For his three uncles are here waiting for him to show up:  the actor Lorenz; the salesman Karl; and the doctor Ludwig.  All three are dyed-in-the-wool bachelors, who wish to protect their nephew from the fair sex.  Nevertheless, Wolf is determined to renew his acquaintanceship with the woman he met on the train.  He's even successful in finding out her name!  The two end up meeting; fall in love; and decide to marry.  Wolf's uncles are not very happy about this pairing-up, especially as each of them has a preconceived notion of what the perfect woman for their nephew would be.

Endlich hat Dr. Wolf Findeisen sein Assessorenjahr hinter sich gebracht und reist in seine Heimatstadt Berlin zurück. Im Zug lernt er eine überaus selbstbewusste junge Frau kennen, von der er sich auf dem Bahnhof jedoch übereilt verabschieden muss. Denn hier erwarten ihn seine drei Onkel: Der Schauspieler Lorenz, der Kaufmann Karl und der Arzt Ludwig sind eingefleischte Junggesellen, die ihren jungen Neffen vor den Frauen "schützen" wollen. Trotzdem setzt Wolf alles daran, seine Reisebekanntschaft wiederzusehen. Es gelingt ihm auch, ihren Namen herauszufinden – die beiden treffen sich, verlieben sich ineinander und fassen den Entschluss, zu heiraten. Wolfs Onkel sind über diese Neuigkeiten natürlich gar nicht erfreut, zumal jeder von ihnen seine eigene Vorstellung von der idealen Frau hat.

PHILINE (Ein Mädel für frohe Stunden) (1944)

Just as the well-known lawyer Dr. Bratt wants to close his practice to take a well-deserved summer vacation, a gentleman is suddenly standing before him, who asserts he can’t wait any longer for the lawyer.  Apparently, this man, Benno Paradis, wants a divorce, and as soon as possible.

Gerade will der ebenso renommierte Rechtsanwalt Dr. Bratt seine Praxis schließen, um in die wohlverdienten Sommerferien zu fahren, da steht plötzlich ein Herr vor ihm, der behauptet, auf gar keinen Fall warten zu können. Benno Paradis will sich scheiden lassen, und zwar so schnell wie möglich.

MEINE TANTE, DEINE TANTE (1956)

Der Kofferträger Tommy vertauscht am Bahnhof versehentlich die Koffer von Oscar Starwasser und Theo Müller mit denen der Kabarettistin Lola und findet sich unversehens in einem kriminellen Komplott wieder: Starwasser und Müller planen, die Stadtbank zu überfallen und wollen hierfür die über dem Geldinstitut gelegene Wohnung anmieten. Die ist jedoch bereits an zwei abwesende Afrikaforscher vergeben und wird von deren Diener gehütet. Es bedarf der Travestie-Künste der Protagonisten in den Gewändern Lolas und viel "weiblichen" Charmes, um den Diener zur Herausgabe der Wohnung zu bewegen.

Porter Tommy has accidentally switched the suitcases of Oscar Starwasser and Theo Muller with the comedienne Lola at the railway station and finds himself once more in the middle of a criminal conspiracy:  Starwasser and Muller plan to rob the city bank and to help accomplish this, they plan to rent the apartment sitting about the bank.  The apartment, however, has already been rented to two African explorers, who are currently on expedition and the place is being watched over by their servant.  This is going to require some rather interesting plotting by the crooks wearing Lola’s clothes and using lots of ‘womanly charms’ to get the servant to clear out of the apartment.
