Vincenc Babočka, a lowly employee at a police station, thinks he's a detective with exceptional abilities. A vacation in Karlovy Vary gives him the opportunity to prove to everyone what he's really worth. Somehow or another, he's mistaken for Leon Weber, a criminal with tentacles in many countries. He decides to take advantage of the confusion and tries to find Leon's accomplice, who's preparing to steal diamonds belonging to the Maharaja of Yohir. According to Weber's plan, he'll meet the Maharaja disguised as Prince Narishkin. Everything goes according to the plan; that is, until the real Weber shows up.
