BARON PRASIL  (1940):

Put out in Nazi occupied Bohmen und Mahren, this 1940 film is the Czech version of the better-known Baron Munchhausen story, immortalized in the 1943 film put out in Nazi Germany, starring Hans Albers, entitled Munchhausen (which we also sell).  Unlike the 1943 German film, however, this one is in black-and-white.  Still, a very entertaining version, even if it is in Czech.  (96 minutes; in Czech with English subtitles.  Very good quality).

Na zámek barona Archibalda Prášila přijel nový tajemník Benda. Benda je už několik týdnů tajně oddán s baronovou dcerou Karlou. Neví o tom ale ani baron, ani jeho žena Olga. Baron večer jde „Na zámeckou“ - do hospody, kde tam mají myslivci sezení. Baron tam dostal cenu za ranní střílení umělých holubů. Při slavnosti řekne myslivcům jednu vymyšlenou historku o svém pradědovi a předvede hraní na imaginární hudební nástroje. Na zámku se mezitím snaží Arnošt Benda vysvětlit baronce, že je ženatý s jeho dcerou. Baronka si ale myslí, že jí chce Benda svést. V noci se vrací mírně opilý baron zpátky a svému věrnému sluhovi Ronaldovi vypráví další vymyšlenou historku. Ronald se stará také o evidenci baronových levobočků, o kterých baronka neví. Baron každý měsíc posílá levobočkům alimenty, a má je zapsané v notesu. Druhý den se celá situace ještě víc zamotá: poté, co Benda řekne baronce večerní baronovu historku, usoudí baronka, že je Benda její syn, o kterého přišla v mládí a kterého měla s hrabětem Kocharowskim (Čeněk Šlégl). I baron pak usoudí, že je Benda jeden z jeho levobočků. Poté se oba rodičové doví, že je Benda s Karlou ženatý a to se jim nelíbí, myslí si totiž, že jsou sourozenci. Situaci ještě zkomplikuje hrabě Kocharowski, který chce Bendu adoptovat, protože si myslí s baronkou, že to je jejich syn. Ke všemu přijde ještě pravý otec Bendy Bedřich s manželkou. Nikdo mu ale nevěří, že je otcem a následkem toho se popere s hrabětem Kocharowskim. Nakonec se celá situace vyřeší. Baron Prášil se smířil se svatbou, dal svému zeťovi notes a ještě vyřešil „dědečkovskou“ záhadu.

SIREN OF ATLANTIS  (1949):

After wandering the Sahara Desert for three months, rescued French Legionnaire Lieutenant Andre St. Avit tells his superior officers the incredible tale of how he discovered the lost continent of Atlantis: While St. Avit and four of his fellow Legionnaires search the Sahara Desert for a lost archaeological expedition led by François Masson, St. Avit and hean Morhange become separated from the rest of the search party. The two are abducted by Tuaregs, a tribe of desert nomads, who take them on an arduous journey to the city of Atlantis, in the heart of the Hoggar Mountains. In Atlantis, the fabled home of an ancient civilization that is believed to be extinct, St. Avit and Morhange are taken to see the ruling queen, Antinea. Before meeting the queen, the two Legionnaires meet Blades, a powerful figure in Atlantis, who introduces them to a group of European men, including Le Mesge, who serves as Antinea's court philosopher. The men all speak highly of Antinea but explain that when she tires of her lovers, she disposes of them by encasing them in metal. St. Avit then receives an amulet from Antinea, which is a symbolic indication that she desires to meet him.   (72 minutes; in English.  Very good quality).
