THE GARDEN OF EDEN (1928):

Toni le Braun is a hopeful, talented opera singer who gets a letter from Budapest saying they have a role for her. Unfortunately, she soon learns that the local venue in which she is to sing is not an opera house but a cabaret. When she refuses the advances of one of the rich patrons of the cabaret, and the wardrobe mistress assists her in escaping his advances, they are both fired. What Toni doesn't know is that the wardrobe mistress is a Baroness, whose husband was killed in the Great War. Rather than lose her old life, she works, and when she gets her husband's yearly check, she lives in Monte Carlo the way she did before the war, until her money runs out, and then she returns to Budapest. The Baroness introduces Toni as her daughter; she is, henceforth, the Baroness' ward.

OLD SAN FRANCISCO (1927):

The Vasquez family is one of the oldest families in San Francisco, but their day of glory is past and now all that remains of them are an old man and his granddaughter, the innocent Dolores. Villainous Chris Buckwell wants to steal their land and ranch from them, even using unfair means to get his hands on it. One of his employees has a nephew who falls for Dolores, however, and together they make plans to save the ranch. Unfortunately for them, Buckwell has a secret and discovering it might prove dangerous.
