DESTINY  (1921):

In this Expressionistic frame story, in which human lives are each represented by a candle, Death grants a woman three chances to save her lover, if lovecan triumph over death.  Within the story, there is another story, each occurring in a setting that is nominally historic, but really in the realm offantasy: an adventure tale with a Persian setting out of the Arabian Nights, a Renaissance Venetian romance, and a largely comic story set in China. MIKAEL  (1924):

In the film, a famous painter named Claude Zoret falls in love with one of his models, Michael, and for a time, the two live happily together as partners.Zoret is considerably older than Michael and as they age, Michael begins to drift away from him, which Zoret does not see.  When a bankrupt countesscomes to Zoret, ostensibly to have a portrait made, but with the real intent of seducing him and swindling him out of his money, she finds Michael to bemore receptive to her advances and, at her lead, the two quickly become a couple and she uses Michael to steal from Zoret.  When Zoret discovers the true nature of the relationship between the two, he is crushed and his work suffers terribly.  After Michael sells a painting of himself, which Zoret madeand gave to him as a gift, and after he steals and sells the sketches Zoret made of their time together in Algiers, where they first fell in love, Zoretbegins work on a painting of a man lying on a beach in Algiers, who "has lost everything."  The work completed, Zoret becomes deathly ill from a broken heart.  Can he somehow restore the old relationship and save both himself and the couple's destiny?  (90 mins.  Very good quality.  Silent German filmwith English subtitles).
