Many years after the end of the Second World War, a former German soldier returns to the Italian countryside, where he fought and asks the parish priest for news of a partisan, whose life he had spared. The priest tells of a long series of disasters that happened to the poor man, culminating in madness and with the killing of the unfortunate by the carabinieri.

Molti anni dopo la fine della seconda guerra mondiale, un ex soldato tedesco torna nel paese italiano dove ha combattuto e chiede al parroco notizie d'un partigiano a cui aveva risparmiato la vita. Il sacerdote racconta la lunga serie di sciagure capitate al poveretto, culminate con la pazzia e con l'uccisione del disgraziato da parte dei carabinieri.
