Fest der Völker:  Leni Riefenstahls monumentale Dokumentation der Olympischen Sommerspiele 1936 in Berlin inszeniert das Sport-Großereignis in der Ästhetik des Nationalsozialismus als Kult des Körpers und der Massenornamentik. Im ersten Teil "Fest der Völker" schlägt ein Prolog den Bogen vom antiken Griechenland, wo die olympische Flamme entsteht, nach Berlin, wohin die Fackel durch ganz Europa getragen wird. Die Mannschaften aus aller Welt ziehen ein und Hitler eröffnet die Spiele. Es folgen Leichtathletik-Wettkämpfe, als Höhepunkte die Siege von Jesse Owens, unter anderem im 100-Meter-Lauf und Weitsprung, und der Marathonlauf mit dem Sieg des Japaners Kitei Son.

Fest der Schönheit:  Der zweite Teil von Leni Riefenstahls monumentaler Dokumentation der Olympischen Sommerspiele 1936 in Berlin, "Fest der Schönheit", beginnt mit dem Morgentraining der Athleten im olympischen Dorf. Es folgen verschiedene Disziplinen: Boden- und Geräteturnen, Segeln, Fechten, Boxen, Reiten, Schießen, Geländelauf, der Zehnkampf mit dem Amerikaner Glenn Morris als Sieger, Hockey- und Fußballendspiel, Radrennen, Military, Rudern und als Höhepunkt die Schwimmwettbewerbe mit dem Turmspringen, das noch einmal die stilisierte Körperästhetik der Nationalsozialisten demonstriert.

Festival of the Nations:  Leni Riefenstahl’s monumental documentation of the Olympic Summer Games of 1936 in Berlin staged as a great sports event incorporating the aesthetics of the National Socialist cults of body worship and mass ornamentation.  In this first part, an unspoken prologue traces the origin of the Olympic flame from ancient Athens to present-day Berlin, to which the flame was carried throughout all Europe before reaching its destination.  All the world teams march by and Hitler opens the games.  Then follows the athletic competitions, among which are such highlights as Jesse Owens’ victories in the 100 meter dash and long jump as well as Japanese Kitei Son’s triumph in the marathon run.

Festival of Beauty:  The second part of this documentary starts with the morning exercises of the athletes in the Olympic Village.  Then various athletic events are recorded:  floor and apparatus gymnastics; sailing; fencing; boxing; riding; shooting; cross-country running; the decathlon with the American Glenn Morris as the victor; hockey and soccer; bicycle racing; rowing and the highlight of this part:  the swimming competition with diving, which once again illustrates the stylized body aesthetics of the National Socialists.
