Peter Volker, a large game hunter in Tanganyika, is just barely able to transfer his animals to a German zoo in Ulmenau shortly before the outbrake of the Second World War. On the run, he is severely wounded and loses track of his neighbors, the farmer Brinkmann and his daughter Christa.
Peter Volker, Großtierfänger in Tanganjika, kann gerade noch kurz vor Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkriegs seine Tiere einem deutschen Tierpark in Ulmenau überstellen. Er selbst wird auf der Flucht schwer verwundet und verliert so seine Nachbarn, den Farmer Brinkmann und dessen Tochter Christa, aus den Augen.
