Melodrama im Zirkusmilieu: Fernand ist aus dem Gefängnis ausgebrochen und findet Unterschlupf im Wanderzirkus Barlay, bei dem seine ehemalige Frau Flora als Raubtierdompteurin arbeitet. Ihr gemeinsamer, mittlerweile erwachsener Sohn Marcel ist Kunstreiter und weiß nicht, dass Fernand sein Vater ist. Marcel liebt Yvonne, die Tochter des Direktors Barlay. Dieser ist gegen die Verbindung, schickt seine Tochter nach Italien und überzeugt Marcel, dass Yvonne seine Gefühle nicht erwidert.

Fernand has broken out of prison and finds refuge in the traveling circus "Barlay", in which his former wife works as an animal trainer. Their son, who, in the meantime, has grown to adulthood --- Marcel --- is an equestrian artist and doesn't know that Fernand is his father. Marcel loves Yvonne, the daughter of the circus director Barlay. Barlay is against this relationship and sends his daughter to Italy, meanwhile convincing Marcel, that his feelings are not shared by Yvonne.
