Catina Minola is one of the two daughters of the tailor Battista. As much as her sister Bianca, engaged to Luciano, is meek and submissive, she is rebellious and hostile to any man. Battista receives a letter in which Petruccio Belli, who as a young man had left years before for America where he made his fortune, informs him that he wants to return and asks Catina to marry him. But Catina has no intention of marrying someone she doesn't know and with the excuse of a bad fall she skips the party that Battista is giving in Petruccio's honor. 

Catina Minola è una delle due figlie del sarto Battista. Quanto sua sorella Bianca, fidanzata con Luciano, è mite e remissiva, tanto lei è ribelle ed ostile ad ogni uomo. Battista riceve una lettera in cui Petruccio Belli, che da giovane era partito anni prima per l'America dove ha fatto fortuna, lo informa di voler tornare e chiede Catina in sposa. Ma Catina non ha nessuna intenzione di sposare uno che non conosce e con la scusa di una brutta caduta diserta la festa che Battista dà in onore di Petruccio.
