A bet has been placed in Heaven. Evil spirit Lumpaci will be permitted to continue spreading misfortune down on Earth, if he succeeds in tempting three men to commit bad deeds. For his victims, he chooses three wandering craftsmen and ensures they win the lottery. These are the tailor Thread; the carpenter Glue; and the cobbler Bootstrap. After a year, they will gather together and see what's become of them.

Im Himmel findet eine Wette statt. Der böse Geist Lumpaci soll nur dann weiter über die Erde wandeln dürfen, wenn es ihm gelingt, einen Menschen zum Schlechten zu verführen. Er nimmt sich drei wandernde Handwerksburschen vor, denen er einen Lottogewinn verschafft: den Schneider Zwirn, den Tischler Leim und den Schuster Knieriem. Nach einem Jahr wollen sie sich wiedertreffen und sehen, was aus ihnen geworden ist.
