In anul 106, armata romana, intr-o uriasa desfasurare de forte, asediaza capitala Daciei, Sarmizegetusa.
Rumanian cult film purporting to explain how the forerunner of modern-day Rumania came into being, Columna opens in the year 106 with the Romans under General Trajan besieging the Dacian capital Sarmizegetusa. When Dacia's king, Decebalus, is forced to retreat with some of his closest followers, Trajan orders one of his officers, Tiberius to pursue the defeated king. Too proud to be taken prisoner, Decebalus commits suicide. At Sarmizegetusa, Trajan orders Tiberius to remain in Dacia and ensure the Romanization of the conquered territory. Initially, Tiberius is confronted with resistance by the local tribes, but eventually wins over the head of one of these tribes, Ciungu, when he shows clemency to his rebellious son. In spite of continued resistance by many of the locals, the Romans eventually overcome the fragmented remnants of Dacia's military force and are left to colonize present day Rumania, thus providing the basis for the fanciful legend, that most Rumanians descend from the progeny of Roman soldiers intermarrying with local Dacians.
