One of Sergiu Nicolaescu's most impressive films, the man who also directed Mihai Viteazul, which we also sell, Dacii concerns itself with the attempted Roman conquest of Dacia in the period from 85 to 88 CE; an area encompassing most of current day Rumania (but not all of it). The King of Dacia, Decebal, must make the ultimate sacrifice to keep alive the integrity of his people in the face of the invading Romans. Septimius Severus, born in Dacia, but raised in the Roman Empire and fiercely loyal to it, must make the choice between his blood origins and the culture he was brought up in. The film is especially noteworthy for its battle scenes, using thousands of extras and not flinching from reality (for its time). To this day, it is still considered one of the best action films about Roman warfare.
Despite it being a Rumanian film, our particular version has the first track in Russian with optional English subtitles; and the second is in the original Rumanian with optional English subtitles. The quality is very good VHS-like. It is particularly good in close-ups; somewhat fuzzy in long shots. But the film is still very much watchable and entertaining.
102 minutes long.
