Die Tänzerin und Prostituierte Lulu ist die Geliebte des Zeitungsverlegers Dr. Ludwig Schön und lebt in einem Apartment, das von ihrem reichen Gönner gezahlt wird. Als Lulu dann erfährt, dass Schön aus gesellschaftlichen Zwängen heraus eine andere Frau heiraten möchte, heckt das intrigante Showgirl einen Plan aus, durch den der wohlhabende Schön gezwungen wird, Lulu zu ehelichen. Doch das Glück ist nur von sehr kurzer Dauer, kommt es doch schon in der Hochzeitsnacht zur Tragödie, in dessen Verlauf Schön sein Leben lassen muss. Es kommt zum Gerichtsverfahren und Lulu ist dem Mord an ihrem Ehemann angeklagt. Jedoch schafft sie es aus dem Gebäude zu entkommen und beginnt ein neues Leben mit dem Sohn ihres verstorbenen Mannes, Alwa. Doch das ist erst der Anfang ihres unheilvollen Schicksals. 

The dancer and prostitute Lulu is the mistress of the newspaper publisher Dr. Ludwig Schon and lives in an apartment paid for by her rich patrons.  When Lulu learns that Schon will be marrying another woman for reasons of society, the scheming showgirl concocts a plot, whereby Schon will be forced to marry Lulu.  Her happiness is of a short duration, however, when Schon perishes on their wedding night.  A trial takes place and Lulu is accused of murdering her husband.  However, she manages to flee and starts a new life with the son of her late husband, Alwa.  But that's only the beginning of her disastrous fate.
