Otto is harassed by his former girlfriend Mila to marry her.  His friend and colleague Franz gets him a job in the remote garage of Bernhard Munchow, where Otto can finally be safe from Mila.  But then, he falls in love with Kathe, the daughter of the owner of “Zum grauen Hecht”, and finds a fierce opponent in Ladewig, who likewise is in love with Kathe and who ensures that Mila once more finds Otto.  Mila, however, falls in love with the gararge owner Munchow, who returns the “love”, only because he’s interested in her alleged wealth. 

Otto wird von seiner ehemaligen Freundin Mila bedrängt, sie zu heiraten. Sein Freund und Kollege Franz verschafft ihm einen neuen Job in der abgelegenen Autowerkstatt Bernhard Münchows, wo Otto erst mal vor Mila in Sicherheit ist. Aber dann verliebt er sich in Käthe, die Tochter des Besitzers der Werft "Zum grauen Hecht", und er findet einen erbitterten Gegner in Ladewig, der ebenfalls in Käthe verliebt ist und der Mila wieder auf Ottos Spur bringt. Mila aber verliebt sich in Werkstattbesitzer Münchow, der es wiederum nur auf ihr vermeintliches Vermögen abgesehen hat.
