It is the 1790s, and the French Revolution has swept away France's aristocracy. But not all of them: Alaine de l'Estelle and her lady-in-waiting Leontine are trying to escape from Paris. Alaine's fiancee, Ernest de Tresailles, is waiting for her near the castle of Trionville. The lady and her maid receive unexpected help from Marc Aron, a lieutenant colonel in the new revolutionary army. The officer leads a troop of Jacobins who occupy Trionville. His help, however, will come with an unacceptable price.
