Jimmie got into the habit of drinking bootleg liquor partly due to the Prohibition law. When he falls in love with and proposes to Florrie, he makes a vow "not to take another drink". The young couple gets married, has a daughter and enjoys a happy family life; that is, until Jimmie starts drinking again. As Jimmie descends into alcoholism, his family falls into disarray. THE WHITE ROSE (1923): A wealthy Southern aristocrat graduates from a seminary and, before taking charge of his assigned parish, decides to go out and see what "the real world" is all about. He winds up in New Orleans and finds himself attracted to a poor, unsophisticated orphan girl, Bessie, whom he meets at a dance hall.
