Dave Emerson is on trial for murder. But thanks to the testimony of the psychiatrist, Dr. Mangrove, he's able to escape jail and instead ends up in a loony bin. He's labelled as mentally incompetent, but is soon competent enough to escape the doc's institution. Emerson's chased by a guard, but the pursuer is murdered by a hooded man with an iron, blue hand. Inspector Craig and Sir John of Scotland Yard are sent to make sense of this crazy scenario. While attempting to do so, they run into the crazy man's twin brother, who seems to have something to hide. Soon thereafter, the figure with the blue hand kills another person.

Dave Emerson steht wegen Mordes vor Gericht. Dank eines psychiatrischen Gutachtens des Nervenarztes Dr. Mangrove entgeht Dave dem Gefängnis. Er wird als unzurechnungsfähig in Mangroves Klinik eingewiesen, von wo ihm jedoch schon bald die Flucht gelingt. Nachdem ein Wärter, der ihn verfolgte, von einem Kapuzenmann mit einer eisernen, blauen Hand ermordet wird, treten Inspektor Craig und Sir John von Scotland Yard auf den Plan. Bei ihren Nachforschungen lernen sie Daves mysteriösen Zwillingsbruder Richard kennen, der etwas zu verbergen scheint. Wenig später verübt die "blaue Hand" einen weiteren Mord.
