After discovering he's the sole inheritor of his uncle's estate, Peter Harden returns to Germany after a fifteen year hiatus in the United States. What a pity to make such a long journey only to find out the "inheritance" is just a huge pile of debt and a ruined heap of a building. But all is not sour milk and bitter honey: Peter meets the bailiff handling his newfound "wealth", a Miss. Ingrid Engel. He immediately falls in lust with her; but the feeling is not mutual.
