Mrs. Lehmann, a caretaker's wife, has three daughters, whom she wants to see marry well. There are a lot of complications, but they don't all quite make it to the top: one marries a confectioner; the other a taxi driver; the third, at least, marries a banker. Mrs. Lehmann is nonetheless happy.
