In Krönleins eleganter Parfümerie fragt jeder nach "Erika", einem Rosenwasser, dem die hübsche Verkäuferin Erika Poliakoff ihren Vornamen geliehen hat. Jeder fragt aber auch nach ihr und möchte nur von ihr bedient werden. Obgleich Krönlein erkannt hat, daß die Kundschaft durch seine Angestellte in den Laden gezogen wird, will er ihr Gehalt aus Geiz nicht aufbessern. Eines Tages macht Erika die Bekanntschaft des Barons Kurt von Zeillern, eines bekannten Tibet-Forschers, der gerade zu einer Expedition rüstet. Diese Reise finanziert der Bankpräsident Wallin, weil er sich auf diese Weise einen Rivalen bei seiner Freundin Anita vom Halse schaffen will. Als Erika in Kurts Wohnung erscheint, um ihm eine Bestellung auszuliefern, finden sich beide sofort sympatisch. Sie durchschaut auch sogleich die Finanzierungsgründe und setzt sie Kurt auseinander. Er gibt daraufhin seine Reisepläne auf. Wegen ihres langen Ausbleibens wird Erika von Krönlein entlassen.  

Everyone asks for “Erika” at Kroenlein’s elegant perfume shop.  It’s a rose-water, which the pretty saleslady Erika Poliakoff has lent her name to.  But everyone also asks for her and wants to be served by her.  Although Kroenlein recognizes, that his customers are being pulled into the shop because of his employee, he’s too stingy to increase her salary.  One day, Erika makes the acquaintance of a certain Barno Kurt von Zellern, a well-known explorer of Tibet, who’s preparing for yet another trip to the East.  This trip is being financed by the bank president Wallin, because he wants to remove a rival hitting on his girlfriend, Anita.  When Erika shows up at Kurt’s apartment to deliver an order, the two fall for one another.  She immediately sees through the reasons for the financing and this disturbs Kurt greatly.  He decides to call off the trip; but Erika has her touch of misfortune, too:  for being away from the shop too long, she’s fired by Kroenlein.
