Der Klaviersolist Horst Kuhlmann gilt als der beste Meisterschüler am Berliner Konservatorium Thormayer. Tag für Tag übt er an seinem Instrument – doch als er in Potsdam die hübschen Gartenbaustudentinnen Lindy und Luise kennen lernt, ist es mit dem Fleiß vorbei. Hals über Kopf zieht er bei den Mädels ein, die im Haus des Gartenbaudirektors Rettich leben. Unter Horsts neuen Interessen leidet natürlich die Kunst, und das, wo er demnächst ein großes Konzert geben soll. Um bei den zwei Freundinnen Eindruck zu schinden, kauft Horst mit geliehenem Geld eine Segeljolle und lädt die jungen Damen sogleich zu einer "Probefahrt" ein. Doch das Boot kentert und die drei werden von dem Architekten Martin Lorenz gerettet, der zufällig mit seinem Motorboot in der Nähe war. Zu Horsts großem Kummer macht sich Lorenz ohne Umschweife an Luise heran. Als wäre das nicht Unglück genug, entzieht ihm Professor Thormayer auch noch den Klaviersolo-Part in dem anstehenden Konzert.  

Piano soloist Horst Kuhlmann is considered the best student at the Berlin conservatory Thormayer.  He practices day after day on his instrument.  But when he gets to know the pretty horticulture students Lindy and Luise in Potsdam, his dedication to his music suffers.  Head over heels in love (lust?), he moves in with the girls, who live in the house of the horticulture director Rettich.  Unfortunately, he’s supposed to be giving a grand concert soon and none of this is helping.  To impress the two ladies, Horst borrows money to buy a sailboat and invites the girls for a “test drive”.  But the boat capsizes and the three are rescued by the architect Martin Lorenz, who happened to be nearby in his motor boat.  Much to Horst’s distress, Lorenz is making a play for Luise.  And if that weren’t enough, Professor Thormayer takes away his piano solo in the upcoming concert.
