V alpski dolini leži idilična, skoraj pravljična vasica. Visoko v gorah en nasproti drugega živita dva moža. Dober mož (dedek) Kosobrin, ki je zeliščar, na drugi strani pa hudobnež po imenu Bedanec, ki je lovec. Bedanec ima deklo Mojco, ki nekega dne sreča Kosobrina in mu zaupa, kako težko je njeno življenje. Čeprav se Kosobrin boji Bedančevega maščevanja, starec vzame Mojco s seboj. Na žalost ga Bedanec ujame in priveže na drevo, Kosobrina pa osvobodi neustrašni in pogumni Kekec (Matija Barl). Bedanec ujame tudi Kekca, vendar mu obljubi, da ga bo spustil, če mu pomaga poiskati nesrečno Mojco. Kekec se temu upre. 

High up in an alpine valley, there's an almost fairytale-like village.  And up there in the mountains live two men very much different from one another.  There's the good man Kosobrin, an herbalist and there's an evil hunter by the name of Bedanec.  Bedanec has a servant girl by the name of Mojca, who, one day, meets Kosobrin and confides in him how difficult her life with the hunter is.  Although Kosobrin fears retaliation from Bedanec, the old man gives refuge to Mojca.  Unfortunately, Bedenec has captured fearless and braves Kekec and promises to release him, only if he helps him find Mojca.  Kekec refuses.
