His countryman --- the aristocratic Colonel Prokoszny --- must get out of France as quickly as possible. He has a secret mission to carry out. The gruff military hero can't stand Jews. Nevertheless, he allows himself to flee south with Jakobowsky. With his incomparable talent of convincing others to do what he wants, Jakobowsky ist even able to secure a Rolls Royce with fuel in the middle of a war! On their way to Spain, the unlikely due manage to rescue the colonel's lover from the enemy's clutches. Thrown together unwillingly into a turbulent odyssey, the two manage to get the best of the occupiers at every turn. Frankreich, 1940. Die deutschen Truppen rücken immer näher auf Paris zu. Für den liebenswerten polnischen Juden Jakobowsky ist es wieder soweit. Er muß fliehen. Auch sein Landsmann, der aristokratische Oberst Prokoszny, muß Frankreich so schnell wie möglich verlassen. Er hat eine geheime Mission zu erfüllen. Der polternde Militärheld kann Juden nicht ausstehen. Trotzdem läßt er sich auf die gemeinsame Flucht mit Jakobowsky in den Süden ein. Mit seiner unverglieichlichen Überredungskunst gelingt es Jakobowsky sogar mitten im Krieg einen Rolls Royce und Benzin aufzutreiben. Unterwegs retten die beiden ungleichen Partner die Geliebte des Oberst aus den feindlichen Reihen. Den unfreiwilligen Freunden gelingt es, auf ihrer turbulenten Odyssee der Besatzungsmacht ein Schnippchen nach dem anderen zu schlagen.
