Mirko Rolín, rich owner of a car factory, is bored by his dissolute life and decides to spend his holidays alone, a long way from his Prague friends. He even bets his friend Theodor that he will go a month without home comforts and without kissing a woman. He sets out on foot for Dubrovník. There he meets Vlasta, the daughter of a Prague vineyard owner who is spending her summer there. He happens to request that he stay there the night and he ends up taking a job there as chauffeur and servant. Vlasta's father has prepared a surprise for her in the form of a potential bridegroom, who is no other than Mirko's friend Theodor. He, however, is already engaged to the actress Rosa Valetti. Rosa, alias Růžena, goes to visit him in Dubrovník, posing as Vlasta's companion. Vlasta is attracted to Mirko. Rosa tells her all about the bet. Vlasta then pretends to have a liking for Theodor, just to tease Mirko. Mirko finally kisses her - and thus loses the bet.

Mirko Rolín, reicher Besitzer einer Autofabrik, ist von seinem ausschweifenden Leben gelangweilt und beschließt, seine Ferien allein, weit weg von seinen Prager Freunden, zu verbringen. Er wettet sogar mit seinem Freund Theodor, dass er einen Monat ohne häusliche Annehmlichkeiten und ohne den Kuss einer Frau auskommen wird. Er macht sich zu Fuß auf den Weg nach Dubrovnik. Dort trifft er Vlasta, die Tochter eines Prager Weinbergbesitzers, die dort ihren Sommer verbringt. Zufällig bittet er ihn, dort über Nacht zu bleiben, und nimmt dort schließlich einen Job als Chauffeur und Diener an. Vlastas Vater hat für sie eine Überraschung in Form eines potenziellen Bräutigams vorbereitet, bei dem es sich um niemand anderen als Mirkos Freund Theodor handelt. Allerdings ist er bereits mit der Schauspielerin Rosa Valetti verlobt. Rosa, alias Růžena, besucht ihn in Dubrovnik und gibt sich als Vlastas Begleiterin aus. Vlasta fühlt sich zu Mirko hingezogen. Rosa erzählt ihr alles über die Wette. Vlasta gibt dann vor, eine Vorliebe für Theodor zu haben, nur um Mirko zu ärgern. Mirko küsst sie schließlich – und verliert damit die Wette.
