The “Wunderteam” was an Austrian soccer team, which, during the 1930s, played on fields all over Europe and easily brushed aside its opponents. So impressive was this team’s performance against all its rivals, that it received the honored nickname “Wunderteam”. The movie is a joint Austrian/Hungraian film about the team’s successes from the year before the film was made – with particular emphasis on the team captain, who, to this day, is lionized in Austria -- and, of course, mixes in a love story to dominate the plat. It should not be confused with the 2011 operetta remake about an all-male soccer team getting into suggestively erotic situations with a female team and which premiered in Dresden that same year.
