Die temperamentvolle Ungarin Ilona verliebt sich in den Schwager ihrer Freundin Otti, den eingefleischten Junggesellen Paul. Um ihm näher zu kommen, lässt sie sich von Otti als Stubenmädchen anstellen und weckt als solches nicht nur Pauls Interesse, sondern auch das von Ottis Mann Max. Der Hausdiener Franz verfällt dem Glauben, Ilona sei seine Tochter, und als Paul entdeckt, dass er das hübsche Stubenmädchen liebt, hält er bei Franz um ihre Hand an. Der lernt nun seine wirkliche Tochter kennen und hält Ilona für eine Schwindlerin. Von hier aus allerdings ist es nur noch ein kleiner Schritt bis zum Happyend.

A tempermental Hungarian, Ilona, has fallen in love with the brother-in-law of one of her friends.  In order to get closer to him, she takes a job as a maid and not only awakens the interest of the brother-in-law in her, but that of her friend's husband (Max).  The butler, Franz, somehow gets the idea in his head that Ilona is his long-lost daughter and when Paul -- the brother-in-law -- discovers that he is in love with Ilona, he asks Franz for her hand in marriage.  But then Franz finds his real daughter and considers Ilona a swindler, even though he was the one who suggested the erroneous relationship in the first place.  From here, it's the usual steps until the "happy ending" takes place.
