Bagdad en 809 sous l'autorité du calife Haroun-al-Rashid. Shéhérazade, la belle et spirituelle, est promise au calife mais des ambassadeurs de Charlemagne arrivent à Bagdad pour demander au calife de laisser aux chrétiens libre accès aux lieux saints. Parmi ces envoyés d'Occident, le chevalier Renaud de Villecroix qui va sauver la jeune fille, s'en éprend et se fait aimer d'elle. Le grand vizir, combat cet amour, multiplie les guet-apens et mène Shéhérazade sous la hache du bourreau. Renaud la sauve une nouvelle fois et s'enfuit dans le désert.  

Baghdad in the year 809.  The city is ruled by the Caliph, Haroun-al-Rashid, to whom the beautiful and spiritual Scheherazade has been promised.  Ambassadors of Charlemagne arrive in Baghdad to ask the Caliph for free access to the Christian holy sites.  Among these envoys from the west is the knight Renaud Villecroix.  Eventually, he will save Scheherazade, fall in love with her and be loved by her.  The grand vizier, enemy of the caliph, ambushes a traveling party and takes Scheherazade prisoner, threatening to cut off her head.  Renaud saves her once again and flees into the desert with her.
