WWI, on the Eastern Front: a special artillery unit, consisting of 13 soldiers and a cannon is able to successfully hold back the enemy. The position is betrayed to the Russian, however, and the cannon destroyed. Every one of the 13 soldiers is under suspicion as being the traitor. As every one of them is threatened with sentence of death if the traitor is not found, the camaraderie of the soldiers is put to the test. They finally come to the realization that the betrayal must have taken place outside of the unit; and indeed, they are successful in finding the Russian spy, who looks very much like one of the men in the unit.

Erster Weltkrieg, Ostfront. Eine Spezialbatterie, bestehend aus dreizehn Soldaten und einer Kanone, kann erfolgreich den Feind aufhalten. Doch dann wird die Stellung des Geschützes an die Russen verraten und die Kanone zerstört. Jeder der dreizehn Männer steht nun unter Verdacht, der Verräter zu sein. Da ihnen allen die Todesstrafe droht, wenn der Verräter nicht gefunden wird, wird die Kameradschaft der Männer auf eine harte Probe gestellt. Schließlich gelangen sie zu der Auffassung, dass ein Außenstehender den Verrat begangen haben muss. Tatsächlich gelingt es ihnen, einen russischen Spion aufzustöbern, der einem von ihnen ähnlich sieht.
