Ein Nazi-Propagandafilm. Der renommierte deutsche Professor Dr. Achenbach forscht in Afrika verzweifelt nach einem Serum gegen die ebenso tückische wie tödliche Schlafkrankheit. Ein Durchbruch steht kurz bevor, da erfährt der Professor, dass in Europa der Erste Weltkrieg ausgebrochen ist und dass die Engländer auch in Afrika Krieg gegen die Deutschen führen. Auch Achenbachs Labor wird gestürmt und niedergebrannt, doch es gelingt seinem Freund Dr. Hofer, die wichtigsten Forschungsergebnisse zu retten. In Deutschland führt Achenbach seine Untersuchungen fort – das Ergebnis ist "Germanin", ein wirksames Serum gegen die Schlafkrankheit.  Mit den Früchten seiner Arbeit will Achenbach nach Afrika zurückkehren, wo das Serum am dringendsten benötigt wird. Nach zähen diplomatischen Verhandlungen gewähren die englischen Kolonialherren ihm 1923 die Einreise. In Afrika angekommen, werden Achenbach und seine Kollegen ohne Unterlass schikaniert und bei ihrer Arbeit behindert. 

Nazi propaganda film about the research of the renowned German professor Dr. Achenbach in Africa, who's desperately trying to develop a serum against the deadly Sleeping Sickness spread by the African tsetse fly.  Just as he's about to make a breakthrough in his research, the professor learns that the First World War has broken out in Europe and, in repudiation of the terms of the Congo Act,  that the British are now making war against the Germans in Africa.  Achenbach's laboratory is stormed and burned down, but he succeeds in passing on his work to Dr. Hofer, who successfully flees from Africa back to Germany.  The saved work results in "Germanic" (Bayer 205), an effective serum against Sleeping Sickness.  Now, Dr. Achenbach wants to return to Africa, where the serum is most needed.  After tough negotiations, the new rulers of Germany's colonies -- the British -- give him limited access to the areas the professor needs to work in to successfully eradicate the disease.  The goal of the British commander on the spot?  To ensure that the German invention is rejected by the locals in favor of a medicine developed by England's ally, America.  But this is more than simple competition between rivals, for, unlike Germanic, the Americans' serum frequently causes blindness.
