Kora und Mara, die ungleichen Zwillingsschwestern, treten gemeinsam als Artistinnen auf. Bei einem Unfall stürzt Mara und ist für lange Zeit ans Bett gefesselt. Zu allem Unglück verliert sie auch ihren Geliebten, den Komponisten Michael Varany, an ihre Schwester. Um weiteren unliebsamen Auseinandersetzungen zu entgehen, setzt Mara sich nach Algier ab und wird dort in eine Spionageaffäre verwickelt. Als es darüber zwischen den Schwestern zum Streit kommt, schießt Mara auf Kora, die durch einen Streifschuß getroffen die Treppe hinunterstürzt und sich dabei tödlich verletzt. Ein Freund überredet Mara, weiter als ihre Schwester aufzutreten.

Kora and Mara, two twin sisters, who couldn’t be more different from each other, appear together as artistes.  Mara falls during practice and is confined to bed for a long time.  On top of that, she loses her lover, the composer Michael Varany, to her sister.  To escape further unpleasant confrontations, Mara heads off to Algiers and promptly gets involved in espionage.  When a fight breaks out between the two sisters, Mara shoots at Kora, who is hit by a stray bullet and dies after falling down the stairs.  A friend convinces Mara to then switch identities with the dead sister.
