All Buenos Aires is in a panic, thanks to the crimes of a thief, who's already killed seven times to rob his victims. He only does this when it rains and always leaves a card afterwards with the name, S. Lopez. The police officer in charge of the investigation receives information from a journalist that a petty thief saw the murderer enter a house where he worked: the guesthouse Babel. The current residents of this guesthouse are the owner Valeria Duval; the journalist's girlfriend Lila Espinoa; an actor, who claims he's Russian; a surgeon forced into retirement; a magician; a watchmaker; and a couple with the last name Vargas. When a new guest shows up, the police ask him to be an informant, but he refuses and announces the next day, that he's going to leave the guesthouse. That same night, someone murders him and leaves the S. Lopez calling card in his room.

La población de Buenos Aires está atemorizada por los crímenes de un ladrón que ya ha matado en siete oportunidades para robar a sus víctimas. Los hechos los comete en la calle en días de lluvia y siempre deja una tarjeta con el nombre "S. López". A través de un periodista, Lucho Rivas, el policía encargado de la Investación, inspector Lima, recibe la información de un ladronzuelo que ha visto que la persona que cometió el último crimen entró en una casa donde func la pensión1 "Babel". En ella viven la dueña, Valeria Duval, la novia del periodista, Lila Espinoza, un actor que se dice ruso, Boris Andreieff, un cirujano a quien se le retiró el permiso para ejercer la profesión, el doctor Robledo, un mago que se hace llamar Merlín, un relojero llamado Lamas y el matrimonio Vargas. Cuando llega un nuevo huésped la policía le solicita que sea su informante pero se niega y anuncia que al día siguiente dejará la pensión. Esa misma noche es asesinado en su habitación y en ella deja su tarjeta "S. López".
