Nach Thomas Manns gleichnamigem unvollendeten Roman wird die unglaubliche Erfolgsgeschichte eines Sonnenkindes und Schelms erzählt: Nachdem Felix Krull dank seiner Schauspielkunst vom Militär für untauglich erklärt wird, beginnt er in Paris zunächst sein Arbeitsleben im Hotel, um bald darauf selbst als hoher Herr, als Marquis de Venosta, durch die Welt zu reisen. Sein Glück bei den Damen, namentlich bei der extravaganten Madame Houpflé und bei Zouzou, der Tochter seiner Reisebekanntschaft Professor Kuckuck, ist ihm dabei außerordentlich behilflich. Felix Krull ist stets in der Lage, seine Umwelt für sich zu begeistern, so dass selbst ein Mordverdacht nicht zwangsläufig zur Verzweiflung führen muss.

Based on the incomplete novel by Thomas Mann, this film tells the unbelievable success-stories of a Wunderkind and prankster:  After Felix Krull is declared unfit for military service, thanks to his acting abilities, he moves to Paris to, at first, work in a hotel, and then shortly afterwards, to travel the world as the rich marquis de Venosta.  His luck with women, especially with the extravagant madame Houpfle and Zouzou, the daughter of his traveling partner professor Cuckoo, greatly assists him.  Felix Krull is always able to inspire his environment to work best for his benefit; so that even an accusation of murder need not lead him to despair.
