Because they are unable to pay the rent, 17-year old Eva and her grandfather are homeless.  Eva tries to earn some money as a street musician, but is forced to change clothes with a thief on the run.  Forced to become a “boy”, Eva, who now calls herself “Peter”, ends up in court after an argument with the doctor Robert Bandler.  Out of pity, Robert finds work for her with the garage owner Zollner.  Eva/Peter has no idea, whom to thank for her new job; and although she feels herself drawn to Robert, she maintains her masquerade for countless more adventures.

Weil sie die Miete nicht bezahlen können, werden die 17-jährige Eva und ihr Großvater obdachlos. Eva versucht sich als Straßenmusikantin, wird dabei aber von einem flüchtigen Dieb zum Kleidertausch gezwungen. Notgedrungen zum Jungen gemacht, landet Eva, die sich nun Peter nennt, nach einem Streit mit dem Arzt Robert Bandler vor Gericht. Aus Mitleid verschafft ihr Robert eine Arbeit bei dem Garagenbesitzer Zöllner. Eva/Peter weiß jedoch nicht, wem sie die Anstellung zu verdanken hat, und obwohl sie sich zu Robert hingezogen fühlt, sorgt sie mit ihrer Maskerade für zahlreiche Verwicklungen.
