In a rural village in Lucania, a peasant woman is desperate, because the man she loves, Antonio, with whom she had an affair in the past, has been promised to another. After being rejected several times by him, she throws the evil eye at him. The woman begins to manifest other bizarre behaviors that frighten her fellow villagers, convinced that she is possessed by the Devil. The woman is subjected to an exorcism and some ceremonial magic rites (during which she is raped) with the aim of freeing her from the alleged demonic forces. 

In un borgo rurale della Lucania, la contadina Purificata è disperata perché l'uomo che ama, Antonio, con il quale ebbe una storia in passato, è promesso a un'altra. Dopo essere stata rifiutata più volte da lui, Purificata gli getta contro il malocchio e si dà alla fuga. La donna inizia a manifestare altri bizzarri comportamenti che intimoriscono i suoi compaesani, convinti che sia posseduta dal Demonio. A seguito di alcuni eventi la donna viene sottoposta a un esorcismo e ad alcuni riti di bassa magia cerimoniale (durante uno dei quali viene stuprata) con il fine di liberarla dalle presunte forze demoniache.
