Captain Kellersperg seems to be out of luck: In Greece, his captain's license was revoked, because he brought his sick friend on land and thus violate quarantine regulations ... and all in vain, because Groppi ends up dying. And now, a dubious Consul named Calfa has engaged his services to ship a boatload of pianos from Athens to Africa. Something doesn't quite sound right to Kellersperg about all of this, but he accepts the contract. At first, everything is going splendidly, even if the "Consul" has brought the actress Rosa on board -- the wife of a dead friend -- allegedly because he can provide her with a performance engagement in Africa.

Kapitän Kellersperg scheint vom Pech verfolgt zu sein: In Griechenland bekommt er seine Kapitäns-Lizenz aberkannt, weil er seinen kranken Freund Groppi an Land gebracht und damit gegen Quarantäne-Vorschriften verstoßen hat – alles umsonst, denn Groppi stirbt. Und nun hat ihn ein dubioser Konsul Calfa engagiert, eine Schiffsladung Klaviere von Athen nach Afrika zu transportieren. Irgendwie kommt Kellersperg die Sache seltsam vor, aber er nimmt den Auftrag an. Zunächst verläuft die Reise problemlos, auch wenn der "Konsul" die Schauspielerin Rosa, die Frau seines verstorbenen Freundes, an Bord gebracht hat, angeblich weil er ihr ein Engagement in Afrika verschaffen kann.
