The musician Edward Boeckel wants a normal life for himself and marries the laundrymat owner Lisbeth Timm. Along with the husband comes his friend, August Garfs, and it isn’t long before the maid Alwine has an eye on him. In his new relationship, Boeckel helps out by inventing a new laundry detergent, which, unfortunately, has atrocious results: the laundry starts to fall apart and so does his marriage. Eduard runs off to spend time with his musical buddies, drinks himself into a stupor and seeks solace from Alwine.

Der Musiker Eduard Boeckel will solide werden und heiratet die Wäschereibesitzerin Lisbeth Timm. Seinen Freund August Garfs bringt er mit in die Ehe, und schnell hat die Haushilfe Alwine ein Auge auf ihn geworfen. In seiner neuen Position erfindet Boeckel ein Waschmittel mit leider grauenhaften Folgen: Die Wäsche wird brüchig, und der erste folgenschwere Ehekrach ist da. Eduard flieht zu seinen Musikerkollegen, betrinkt sich und sucht Trost bei Alwine.
