The palace of Sir Robert Chiltern and his wife Lady Gertrud is located in the best London quarter. Local Society has decided to throw a party on the occasion of Lady Gertrud's birthday. Lord Gorin, a good friend, has come. But the sensation of the evening belongs to the appearance of Gloria Cheveley, a beautiful, but rather mysterious woman. Lady Gertrud and Goring have no good memories of the woman. In fact, the Lord had been engaged to her for a short time. He senses the danger this woman poses. In fact, Gloria is intent on blackmailing Sir Chiltern. She is holding a letter, which would be of great embarrassment to the man and demands that the Chamber of Commerce support a project, from which she can make a large profit.
