El Gran Calavera is a dark comedy which deals with a family's attempt to change the spending habits of their indulgent and hedonistic patriarch, Alfredo. The family decides to try to fool him into spending less by telling him that his large fortune is gone. He discovers that this is nothing but a ruse, but -- in order to teach his family that they're all worthless and lazy (and to vindicate his own reputation) -- he continues to feign ignorance while sneaking off during the day to conduct his very prosperous business.

Ramiro es un viudo rico y alcohólico que se deja explotar por sus hijos Virginia y Eduardo, por su hermano Ladislao y por su cuñada Milagros. Su hermano Gregorio, desesperado ante la situación, decide hacerle creer que está arruinado y que su familia debe trabajar si quiere sobrevivir.
