Dr. Franz Duhr ist ein beliebter Kurarzt im Bad Ischl der k.u.k.-Zeit. Als das falsche Gerücht aufkommt, er habe bei dem Dienstmädchen Therese eine Abtreibung vorgenommen, verzichtet er bewusst auf Klarstellung und beobachtet stattdessen amüsiert die dörfliche Klatsch- und Skandalsucht. Doch das Gerücht verbreitet sich und beginnt sein Ansehen zu beschädigen; immer mehr Patienten entziehen ihm ihr Vertrauen.

Dr. Franz Duhr was a beloved spa doctor in Bad Ischl during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.  When the false rumor gets around, that he gave an abortion to the servant Therese, he declines to deny the rumor and instead watches with amusement how he becomes the subject of local gossip and scandal.  But then, the rumor spreads and begins to damage his prestige.  More and more patients withdraw their trust from him.
