Herbert Sparrow is a new medical student at St. Swithin's Hospital in London. On the one hand, he needs to work a little harder to make something out of himself in the medical field; on the other hand, he's more than adequate in chasing after pretty girls, especially pretty nurses. His three roommates won't be of no help to his future career, since they're determined to fail their exams and stay in school as long as possible to avoid ever having to work. Thankfully, there's Lancelot Spratt, a growling, red-bearded giant of a man, whose murderously bearish nature constantly shocks his charges into remembering why they're in medical school. And so, Sparrow buries himself in the drudgery of his studies, all of which is punctuated by embarrassing experiences, bizarre patients and even stranger teachers.

Herbert Sperling ist ein neuer Medizinstudent am St. Swithins Hospital in London. Einerseits noch ein wenig mit der Medizin auf Kriegsfuß, andererseits stets ein Auge auf ein schönes Mädchen bzw. auf eine schöne Krankenschwester werfend, bezieht er seine Studentenwohnung mit drei Langzeitstudenten, die nichts Besseres zu tun haben, als immer wieder durch die Prüfung zu fallen, um das süße Leben weiter zu genießen. Doch dann ist da immer noch Lancelot Spratt, ein grollender, rotbärtiger Gigant, dessen mörderisch-bärige Natur die Studenten immer wieder an ihren Beruf erinnert. Und so gerät Sperling in die Mühlen des Studiums, irgendwo zwischen peinlichen Erlebnissen, kuriosen Patienten und noch seltsameren Lehrern.
