Um seine ehemalige Braut Hilde wiederzufinden, lässt der Polizist Richard Haller sich nach München zur Feuerschutzpolizei versetzen. Bei einem Kontrollgang durch eine Chemiefabrik trifft Haller tatsächlich auf Hilde, die als Sekretärin des Fabrikchefs arbeitet. Obwohl beide merken, dass sie sich noch immer lieben, kommt es nicht zur erhofften Versöhnung, denn Hilde ist eifersüchtig auf eine Tänzerin, mit der Richard sich getroffen hat; Haller wiederum sieht in dem zwielichtigen Wiedemann einen Nebenbuhler.

The fireman-policeman Richard Haller is transferred from Hamburg to Munich. He is ordered to temporarily serve as the fire prevention expert in a chemical plant and meets his former fiancee Hilde there, who works as the boss' secretary. A certain Wiedemann has the hots for Hilde. Haller soon discovers, however, that Wiedemann is a criminal. Disguised as a fireman, Wiedemann gets the keys to the boss' safe, in which there is radium, which Wiedemann is determined to steal. Since it's been determined that a fireman tried to break into the safe, Haller is falsely accused and is suspected of an attempted crime. But he knows who tried it and he's determined to catch him in the act next time.
