Georg Gruber fängt bei Glockengießer Schwaiger als Geselle an. Er verliebt sich in Schwaigers Tochter Monika. Da Schwaiger sich beim Guss zweier Glocken beim alten Ampflinger verschuldet hat und der ihm auch das Geld für den Guss einer dritten Glocke leihen will, hatten beide Männer ausgemacht, dass Ampflingers Sohn Paul einmal Monika heiraten darf. Die weiß nichts davon, hatte sich sowieso in Paul verliebt, kommt nun jedoch mit Georg zusammen.  Die Schauspielerin Lia Serrana erscheint mit ihrem Filmstab im Dorf, um hier einen Heimatfilm zu drehen. Sie findet Gefallen an Georg, der jedoch eine Rolle im Film ablehnt. Weil Ampflinger mit einem Mal das Geld für den dritten Glockenguss sofort bezahlt haben will, und andernfalls Monika für seinen Sohn fordert, verkaufen Georg und Monika heimlich eine alte Christophorus-Figur, die beim Glockenguss Glück bringen soll und ersetzen sie durch eine Kopie. Der Käufer wiederum bezahlt die Bronze für die Glocke, sodass Ampflingers Drohung erst einmal abgewendet wird. Paul jedoch kommt hinter das Geheimnis der Fälschung und will Georg an Schwaiger verraten, der gerade die Glocke gießt. Es kommt zum Zweikampf, an dessen Ende Georg Paul in die Glockenglut stößt.

Georg Gruber starts work as an apprentice in making bells with master Schwaiger.  He falls in love with Schwaiger’s daughter Monika.  Since Schwaiger had to borrow money from the old Ampflinger to have the materials to pour two bells --- and because he wants to borrow more money to be able to pour a third one --- both men have come to the agreement, that Amplinger’s son Paul will one day marry Monika.  Monika, of course, has no idea of this and falls in love with Paul anyway.  The actress Lia Serrana arrives with her crew in the village to make a Heimatfilm.  She takes a liking to Georg, who declines a role in the film.  Because Ampflinger paid for the third bell’s pouring and demands Monika for his son, Georg and Monika secretly sell an old Chrisophorus figure, which is supposed to bring luck when making bells, and replaces it with a copy.  With the money from the sale, they thus want to pay off Ampflinger.  At the same time, the buyer of the bell pays for the bronze to be used in making it, so that Ampflinger’s demands can finally be ignored.  But Paul comes upon the secret of the copy and wants to betray George to Schwaiger, who at that very moment is pouring the bell.  A fight breaks out, during which Georg pushes Paul into the melted bronze.
