In 1918, workers arrive by train in the middle of the Taiga in order to construct an electrical plant.  Among them is Vasily, who is made chief of the depot.  He runs into hostility and has to put down corruption. Vasily shares a cabin with other workers and a couple, who sleep in a corner of the room behind a curtain. He falls in love with the woman of the house. Counter-revolutionaries try to prevent the building of the town, but Vasily persists in felling more trees and by his example gets the other workers to join him. His relationship with the woman is discovered and the woman is beaten, bound and imprisoned. Vasily rescues her. The counter-revolutionaries and local peasants, hostile to the Communists to the end, have no intention of letting Vasily and his new bride enjoy a happy ending to the story.

A very engaging film. It certainly shows the role party members played in transforming the USSR. It also shows what a real Communist Party member was made of.
